TRONIC GLASGOW:  A NEW WAVE OF ELECTRONIC SOUNDS

Christ.

This will be the second coming of Christ. to Tronic, after his glorious appearance in the spring of 2007. Less commonly known as Christopher Horne, Christ.'s talent for gliding intimate analogue synth sounds over delicate broken beats amid lush soundscapes and haunting vocal samples has established him as an Eno-esque downtempo master.

After collaboration in the 1990s with Boards of Canada, Christ. made his personal debut with the 'Pylonesque' EP in 2002. This was followed in 2003 by the full-length album 'Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle'. These releases resulted in Christ. receiving wide exposure on the electronic circuit, with a touring schedule taking him around Europe and Japan. He also gained the honour of performing at the BBC's Maida Vale studios in 2003 for the late and legendary John Peel.

After two further EP releases - 2005's 'Seeing And Doing' and 2007's 'Bike' - the second Christ. album, 2007's 'Blue Shift Emissions', continued and expanded the themes of his music: dense, lingering, bassy atmospherics and sharp percussion constraining warm melodies - sometimes beatifully simple, sometimes beatifully twisted - and masking a wealth of hidden subtlety, drifting and wandering in its own oblivious way. The architecture of such music is shared by many artists, but with Christ. everything seems - paradoxically - more richly structured and less deliberate.

The music of Christ. is beautifully simple and organic, very much outside the confines of modern electronica. This live appearance is one not to be missed.

Dextro

Dextro - Glasgow's own Ewan MacKenzie - will also be making his second appearance at Tronic. His debut solo album, 2007's 'Consequence Music', was built on the experience of a number of previous EPs and is an evocative and inventive collection. Downtempo electronica, shimmering psychadelic guitars and walls of orchestrated sound are fused into a coherent and compelling whole - which at times is epic and utterly unpredictable.

Specialising in percussion, and involved with another musical project in the field of experimental heavy metal, Dextro perhaps approaches electronic composition from a different perspective than contemporaries such as Nathan Fake or Ulrich Schnauss. However, the results of his labours draw favourable comparisons with any shoegazers out there. Finely-instrumented layers of delicate analogue synth melodies and colourful soundscapes are driven along by dark undercurrents and solid rhythms.

Harmony and discord make good bedfellows, as Dextro will demonstrate live.

Araya

Araya is the solo work of Inverness born Keir MacCulloch and is the newest kid on the Benbecula block. A keen musician involved in many bands and projects over the last few years, Keir is now firmly focused on this his solo project and has managed to create a truly unique sound.

Araya has taken his music to the live circuit supporting established names such as The Orb, and Silicone Soul and involvement with festivals such as GoNorth 2007,Spectrum Fest and a slot at the prestigious Benbecula Records showcase night, has helped the artist become one of Scotland’s most exciting new electronic sounds.

Melodic delicate sounds, transformed into a serious of glitch and breaks possessing as much energy as emotion, this is a chap already making a name for himself from Inverness to Edinburgh and now Glasgow. Go see him.

The Lava Experiments

Being some what experts in various forms of experimental music, The Lavas flow between the parts that make up post rock, avant-garde and ambient electronica.

An experiment out of curiosity or a beautiful collaboration that was meant to be, The Lavas are both just that, conceived from varied recording projects, spanning several musical genres. A live outing in the true sense as, along side a laptop, expect guitar, drums and visually enhanced backdrops.

The band has had past releases on Herb Recordings and just recently a stunning new EP (1st of what will be three EPs) ‘Blackbody Volume 1’ on independent Glasgow label Antimatter Music. A collection of expansive, hypnotic tracks, containing enough lingering energy, enabling the music to develop beyond its shoegazing roots.

2008 is shaping up to be a busy year for the band, so catch the Lavas live in full flow where a whole new dimension of music lies awaiting.
